On the latest edition of the Samson Strength Coach Collective we speak with Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Football at University of Hawaii, Ryan Ishihara. During the episode we discuss empathy in coaching, Ryan’s experience as a high school athletic trainer, and the unique challenges that the University of Hawaii faces with their travel.

—————

“Coach Chang says a lot of times, the weight of our state of Hawaii is heavy and we have to be able to hold it on our backs. So everything that you do is a direct reflection of not only the University of Hawaii, but our state is on it. So I think that’s a heavy one that we lean on. I mean, for me, that’s kind of my motivation behind working here is, you know, being able to represent and make sure that these kids live up to the hype that they deserve to and that we as residents of the state need to.”
