“I summarize as it’s hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills are VBT. It’s force played. It’s GPS systems. It’s understanding different periodization strategies and coaching, variety of exercises and modifying as needed, whether it’s an acute or chronic issue. Modifying is needed for individuals or groups, right? All that stuff is a hard skill set. Some of it’s taught in the classroom. And in textbooks, some of it’s through internships and hands -on practical experience. But ultimately, those are the hard skills that you need to be successful in our field. Nobody’s arguing that. And if you argue that, oof. And nobody’s arguing the importance of some of the foundational pieces of our profession. What I don’t know is focused on enough is the development of soft skills and how important they are in building relationships and building trust and giving you the pathway to allow you to put your hard skill knowledge into use. We don’t work with robots. And frankly, if we did, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing because I would hate it. It’s not about that. It’s not robots. We work with human beings that have real life struggles the same way that you and I do..”
